Abstract
We report a case of lupus of the palate associated with lupoid conditions -of the skin of the face.
Oral lupus commonly occurs in patients with no demonstrable tuberculous lesion in the lung, whereas oral tuberculosis is considered to be a secondary infection to primary tuberculosis of the lung or gastrointestinal tract. The lupus is a tuberculous new growth, characterized by tiny yellowish or pink nodules on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, usually terminating in ulceration and scarring.
A 25-year-old country woman visited, on account of her "troublesome symptoms, the outpatient department of. otolaryngology and of dermatology, Seoul National University Hospital to get biopsies, which were proved to be fibrocaseous tuberculosis of the palate and lupus vulgaris of the skin. And other positive laboratory findings were only on Mantoux test.
It was, therefore, considered and discussed to be a lupusof the palate, not tuberculosis, with negative lung findings, good general conditions and characteristic local lesions.
